Open all year round, Ashworth Valley Scout Campsite is set in 48 acres of beautiful countryside, including a wooded river valley. The site has three camping fields and two modern accommodation buildings; the Janet Cotton Pack Holiday Centre and the Ranch House, with a Nissen hut available as a wet weather shelter.

Facilities include:
  • Camping sites for Patrol or Troop camps
  • Piped water to all buildings and fields
  • Toilet and washing facilities in buildings and on camping fields with hot water and showers
  • Refuse points
  • Telephone (Pay Phone)
  • Camp Shop
  • Small Adventure playground
  • Nature Trail
  • Campfire Circle
  • Wood Pile
  • Outdoor Chapel

The site, once part of the Earl of Egerton's estate, was purchased in 1944 by Rochdale and Heywood Scout Districts. The official opening was performed by Sir Percy Everitt, then Deputy Chief scout.

The Tuck Shop

Once the stables, situated in the main farm building, the Tuck Shop is stocked with ample supplies of sweets, drinks, and special Ashworth Valley souvenirs.

The shop is manned by Camp Staff, who are happy to assist you in any way. Camp basics like milk, washing-up liquid, scouring pads, T-towels and Pot Noodles™ are also on sale at the Tuck Shop. Special orders (such as fresh milk and newspapers, which are not kept in stock) can be taken when you arrive at Reception. These items can then be collected from the shop.

Opening times are displayed in the shop window. Other times are by arrangement.

The Valley

The Campsite has immediate access to the wooded Valley below. Although camping is not permitted in the Valley itself, the stream and flood plain are excellent for playing games or just relaxing.

By night, the Valley becomes a great setting for night hikes and adventure games. This is also the perfect time to see the local wildlife.

All we ask, is that visitors keep the Valley clean and tidy, for everyone to enjoy.
